Montreal, Haiti finish scoreless

Montreal Impact and the Haitian National Team tied 0-0, Wednesday, in front of 8,047 spectators at Saputo Stadium, in its second of six international games presented this summer in Montreal.

“We played a good game tonight and we need to continue to forge ahead,” declared Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. “We played a very good game defensively. Everyone did well tonight and we played with intensity. We respected the public today with a very good performance. This game was a good simulation of our Champions League games.”

“It is the first time in my life that I play in front of such an electrifying crowd,” noted Haiti native defense Elkana Mayard, who played the full 90 minutes for the Impact. "It was very special playing tonight."

Haitian native Impact players Félix Brillant and Pierre-Rudolph Mayard also played in the second half.

Goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic played the entire game and registered the shutout after facing 9 shots.

Marc Dos Santos fielded a total of 21 players in this game.

Defender Alex Surprenant played his first game this year with the Impact, while captain Mauro Biello and forward Pa Amadou Gai were on the starting lineup for the first time this year.

The two midfielders Ciaran O’Brien and Tyler Rosenlund currently trying out with the Impact, defender Hicham Aaboubou, as well as forward Reda Agourram, who was called back from the Troi-Rivières Attak, all entered the game in the second half.

The Haitian National Selection, currently ranked 124th in the FIFA world ranking, will compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which starts Friday, in the United States.

The Montreal Impact will play its next international game against the Syrian National Team next Wednesday at Saputo Stadium (7:30 pm).

The Impact will play its next regular season game Sunday against the Charleston Battery, at 3:30 pm (Radio-Canada, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
18th minute – Haitian forward Robens Jerome deflected with a header a cross from midfielder Brunel Fucien, but the shot went just above the Impact goal.

24th minute - On a pass from midfielder Tony Donatelli, Adam Braz made a cross to the far post that connected with young Gambian forward Pa Amadou Gai, who deflected the shot with a head that went into the hands of Haitian goalkeeper Dominique Jean-Zepherin.

28th minute – After beating goalkeeper Jean-Zepherin, midfielder Rocco Placentino took a weak right-foot shot that was cleared by a Haitian defender before crossing the goal line.

51st minute – Assisted by his own speed, forward Pa Amadou Gai recovered a ball in Haitian territory, and alone from the right wing, fired a low shot that Jean-Zepherin stopped by diving to his right.

57th minute – From inside the penalty box, midfielder Fucien Brunel took a shot that sailed just above the Impact goal.

86th minute – Haitian forward Leonel St-Preux took a volley shot that went off just to the left of the Impact goal.
